Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare for implementation of the pit plan
   • Access, interpret and apply implementation of pit plan documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
   • Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
   • Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures
   • Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
   • Confirm the geological, geotechnical, hydrogeotechnical, hydrological and survey data relevant to the implementation of the pit plan
   • Communicate and coordinate activities with others prior to, during and on completion of the work activity
   • Access, interpret and clarify the pit development parameters and strategies relevant to the implementation of the pit plan
2. Prepare the pit plan
   • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders in the planning process in a way that uses their contribution effectively and gains their support for the outcomes
   • Develop and document the pit plan in accordance with the pit development parameters and strategies, the confirmed geological, geotechnical, hydrogeotechnical, hydrological and survey data
   • Identify and confirm the resources required for the implementation of the pit plan
   • Identify training needs of team members and prepare training plans
   • Prepare and present the pit operations budget
3. Initiate, monitor and adjust the implementation of the pit plan
   • Issue, explain and clarify the pit plan to team members and others involved, for the safe, effective and efficient implementation of the pit development
   • Acquire resources for implementation of the pit plan
   • Provide timely ongoing support and advice to those implementing the pit plan
   • Ensure written records and reports are maintained and issued
   • Monitor the pit implementation of the pit plan against pit development parameters, strategies, the budget
   • Resolve variances in consultation with relevant stakeholders and issue instructions for adjustments to the plan

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant legislation, documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient implementation of pit plans including:

identifying the relevant information and scope of the work necessary to meet the required outcomes

interpreting and applying operational performance data

identifying viable options and selecting options that best meet the required outcomes

interpreting and applying geological, hydrological and survey data

selecting construction techniques

selecting and applying development strategies

selecting and assigning plant and equipment

works effectively with others to undertake and complete the implementation of pit plans that meets all of the required outcomes including:

complying with written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

providing leadership and direction to the team by communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

communicating clearly and concisely with others to resolve coordination requirements prior to commencing and during work activities

identifying the training needs of others

demonstrates completion of implementing pit plan that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

developing, initiating and administering pit plans

preparing pit operations budgets

selecting and assigning the required resources

monitoring the implementation of the pit plan, and making adjustments to the work plan

prepare training plans

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of implementation of a pit plan through:

geological, geotechnical, hydrological, hydrogeological, and survey data

the pit development strategic plan and its parameters and strategies, options and procedures

operational techniques required for execution of the plan including plant and equipment capabilities

team leadership techniques including:

work planning and work monitoring methods

recording and reporting systems

questioning and active listening

consultation and coaching techniques

training systems
